designsmithgallery is pleased to present the work of Cincinnati, Ohio artist, Rebecca Weller. The solo exhibition will feature recent work. Her varying scale paintings of Chinese workers are being shown in a gallery setting for the first time.

Using a Cincinnati Art Academy education as her foundation, Rebecca Weller has spent the last two years studying and working out of her studio. An exploration of the master’s styles and techniques has served well the development of her unique and evolving style.

A strikingly narrow range of colors and a painterly hand, combined with a deft combination of thin glazing and opaque layers of paint, characterize the Asian-inspired paintings created by Weller. Her exploration of this foreign culture has led to a profound cultural awareness. For the recognition of one’s own similarities to that of another ethnic or racial group is the first step in a broader awareness-- that of collective humanness.

Following the well received and successful showings of Rebecca’s Geisha Portraits in such venues as the KZF Gallery and the University of Cincinnati, designsmithgallery enthusiastically offers her latest work of Chinese workers. These sensitively rendered oil paintings and studies are a delight.
